Caring for the brain before illness develops.

Established in 2011 at the UFMG School of Medicine, CTMM brings together research, technology and services. It also hosts INCT NeuroTec-R, which is dedicated to responsible neurotechnology.

CTMM brings together research and services for academic institutions and industry, with resources for functional imaging, molecular biology and cognitive assessment.

Our premise

Cognition is integral to brain health.

Studying cognition across the lifespan helps investigate relationships between development, aging and mental health. Cognitive assessments are analyzed alongside clinical, biological and neuroimaging data, according to the research question.

  • Cognitive monitoring at different stages of life.
  • Investigation of the relationships between the brain, inflammation and cognition.
  • Integration of cognitive, biological and clinical measures.

In one sentence

Connecting cognitive assessment, molecular biology and neuroimaging to advance knowledge of brain health and support translational research.

Principles

Principles that guide our research.

The whole lifespan
Brain health across the lifespan; every theme is considered in the context of the whole life course.
Trajectories
Trajectories before labels; diagnosis is one layer, rather than the focus of inquiry.
Health monitoring
A public health concept, as in antenatal and child health care, rather than surveillance of individuals.
Neurodiversity
Language centered on support needs in neurodevelopment.
Auditable technology
Explainable AI, governance under Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (LGPD) and FHIR interoperability.
Equity
A design criterion, rather than a separate topic.
Evidence
Claims proportionate to the evidence; never promising more than it supports.
Vocabulary
Language appropriate to each audience.
Access and collaboration

Every project starts with a conversation.

Access to infrastructure

The team advises researchers, institutions and companies on technical feasibility, requirements and conditions for using each resource.

Scientific collaboration

Share your research question, methods of interest and preferred timeline to discuss opportunities for collaboration with the team.

Access conditions and ethical and institutional requirements are assessed for each project.

Brain health concerns everyone.

It is a public concern, beyond scientific elites or corporate agendas.
